Social Media Pet Peeve – Twitter List Caps

by Dwayne Kilbourne on November 20, 2011

I love using Twitter to connect with and engage bloggers, business and technology professionals, friends, family members, local businesses, and everybody else in-between. Since signing up on Twitter, I have found more and more people and brands to follow; along the way, I found that I wanted to better organize those profiles I was following, so I decided to look into the whole list feature that Twitter offers. As time passed by, I added more and more lists, and I felt that I was more efficient on Twitter as a result. Then, I added my twentieth list on my personal Twitter profile. That was great until I came to realize that I was at my limit. In an ideal world, I would like to refine my lists a little more and not have to look for more creative ways to combine lists. Also, it is a hassle to have to build a list on one of my branded profiles (for small businesses, etc.) and then follow that list from my main Twitter profile because, if I want to add another person to that list, I have to log out of my personal profile, log into my branded Twitter profile (ie. @4sqKennesaw or @4sqLoveStory) and follow and appropriately list the profile of my choice! This is a major pet peeve of mine, and I wish Twitter would do something about it!

As I mentioned before, Facebook does not limit the number of lists I create, so why does Twitter? Simply, Twitter just needs to step it up and add more list flexibility. In fact, I would be willing to pay a few bucks each month if that is what it took to upgrade to unlimited lists. Twitter, if you are listing, please stop failing on this one. Sure, I understand that having hundreds of lists is not optimal for most users, but limiting tweeple to 20 is really pushing it. Stop being so stingy and give us some added list flexibility! Am I right about this one, my fellow tweeple?

I have 4 lists, and I am sure 3 of them can be replaced by just following someone else’s list. Can’t you try to eliminate a list or two by following someone’s list and then being able to make your own?
