All You Need Is 20 Seconds of Insane Courage

by Dwayne Kilbourne on November 17, 2012

Twenty Seconds! In the grand scheme of things, that is really no a whole lot of time. However, how you use a mere 20 seconds here or there can make a massive difference in life! In the movie, We Bought A Zoo, Benjamin Mee told his children the following:

All you need is 20 seconds of insane courage and I promise you something great will come of it.

That’s a quote that we all could and should live by! In his case, he approached the love of his life and introduced himself, a task that scared him to death, but 20 seconds of courage changed his life for the better forever. Of course, if you get the courage to approach somebody, it does not mean that he or she is going to be your soul mate, but it does mean that good things will come out of it. In the worst case scenario, you gain more self-confidence in your communication skills, and you never have to worry about what might have been had you approached that person. Of course, this courage is not limited to just approaching people. Instead, it can be applied to numerous situations.

Don’t Kick Yourself Later – Do It Today!

Life is full of challenges, and life is full of rewards, but achieving those life rewards usually happen after taking a risk. Certainly, life is not always easy, for it is filled with a few scary moments here and there, but the journey is amazing. Life is too short to pass up opportunities or to be too afraid of something. Instead of having regrets in the future, gather 20 seconds of courage and take the risk. Opportunities present themselves to us each and every day. If there’s an opportunity that catches your eye, why not build up a little courage and go for it.  What’s the worst that can happen?

So true – this has been my HS Senior’s mantra since the move (good flick btw) – of course his focus is a little more on the social side of things rather than business : )- but still a good reminder for all of us to remember.

For me – I really need to think of it when facing sales calls. Like many business owners – I tend to procrastinate and find other things to do – but once I get started, I actually enjoy the people I talk with, I know that it helps my business, and the downside is very minimal – just takes 20 seconds of courage to get started.

We need to hold up real role models for our kids to emulate.  Not rock stars but maybe icons of peace.  Individuals that demonstrate great character in the face of adversity.

@meeekz:disqus   You couldn’t be more correct. I think of the Dali Lama, Wayne Dyer, and many more Inspirational Leaders for the Children in this World to look up to!
@BrentCarnduff:disqus  Before I decided to comment on this Blog, I said that this is My Mantra, Wow Great Minds do Think Alike!
